Varieties of bread from the Balearic Islands
Specialties
Among the varieties of country bread they make are white bread, brown bread and whole meal bread, as well as xeixa bread and Mallorcan rustic flour bread.
Their most notable specialty is ensaimadas, with a wide variety of fillings: cream, apricot, black seed squash jam, chocolate with nuts, chocolate with strawberry, Ferrero Rocher, Kinder, meringue, lemon pie and truffle, among others. They also make Swiss rolls filled with truffle, cream, lemon pie, truffle and cream.
As for sweet cakes, they offer different varieties such as apricot, apricot with sobrasada, figs with sobrasada, figs and cream. They also make special croissants such as pistachio and Ferrero Rocher, rubiols, coca de quarto, muffins, coquitas, duquesas, cheesecake, carrot cake and all kinds of queen cakes.
They have a wide variety of savoury cocas, including vegetable, trempó, roasted peppers, pork loin with roasted peppers, vegetables with herring, onion with cheese, and onion with cheese and sobrasada.
They also make traditional empanadas (panades), such as meat, meat and peas or chicken, but they also make some more special ones such as dogfish with vegetables and cuttlefish with peas. And we can’t forget the cocarrois.
They make traditional pastries for each holiday. They offer espinagades (spinach pies) on Sant Antoni, empanades (panades), rubiols and crespells at Easter, and roscones for Christmas.
