Varieties of bread from the Balearic Islands

Specialties

Among the varieties of country bread, we find white bread and brown bread. They also make wholemeal xeixa flour bread and brown xeixa bread, as well as magranetas, llonguets, Vienna bread and oil rolls, among others, which they use to prepare their sandwiches.

 

One of their specialities is ensaimadas, which are available in packs to take away. Also worth mentioning are the fruit puff pastry tarts, cuartos, potato coca and brioches, as well as cakes made to order.

 

In terms of traditional pastries, they offer empanadas (panades), cocarrois and savoury vegetable and trempó cocas.

 

They also offer typical products that are consumed in Mallorca during each holiday or season, such as buñuelos (fritters) on All Saints’ Day and mantecados (shortbread) and marzipan at Christmas.

Featured information

Since 2015, Vicens Balagué and his sons Alex and Joan Miquel have been at the helm of the bakery.

 

Vicens is a certified artisan pastry chef. He and his two sons represent the second and third generations of the Balagué bakery in Girona.

 

The bakery is in an old Mallorca house and has a space where you can have a coffee and sample their products. The workshop has a traditional wood-fired oven.
