Varieties of bread from the Balearic Islands
Specialties
Among the varieties of country bread, we can find white bread and brown bread.
One of their specialities is ensaimadas, which are made plain or filled, such as the classic ones with cream, whipped cream, burnt cream, angel hair, as well as fruit.
As for traditional pastries, they offer different types of empanadas (panades): meat, meat and peas, chicken and onion, and musola. They also make vegetable cocas and cocarrois.
In terms of cakes, we can find cremadillos, Swiss rolls, meringues, apple cakes, duchesses, crespells, and birthday cakes.
They also have typical products that are consumed during festivities, such as espinagades (spinach cakes) on Sant Antoni, buñuelos (fritters) during the Verges, ensaimada de tajadas (a type of pastry) during Carnival, lamb empanadas (panades) and rubiols at Easter, coca de navidad (Christmas cake) and roscón de Reyes (a ring-shaped cake) at Christmas.
