Varieties of bread from the Balearic Islands
Specialties
Among the varieties of country bread (pan de payés), they make are white bread, brown bread and wholemeal bread. They also make other types such as xeixa bread, made according to the traditional recipe with lemon and honey; Felanitx bread, made with a mixture of organic spelt and rye; rice bread; olive bread; llonguets, and spelt baguettes with olive oil.
Also noteworthy are saladilla granadina, a flatbread made with spelt and olive oil, covered with a light layer of coarse salt on top, and focaccia with sun-dried tomatoes and rosemary.
Sweet specialities include cinnamon and chocolate sweet flowers. You can also find versions made with seasonal products, such as figs, peaches and blueberries, among others.
