Galetes fortes d’Eivissa

A type of round, flat bread made without yeast, with water, flour, and salt, with a hard, strong consistency and very crumbly. They are like an oil biscuit, but five times larger in diameter.

They were originally a food intended for sailors, as the lack of yeast meant that they would last for many days without spoiling. It was usually eaten combined with casco sardines, cod, dried fish, or simply, olives. It is now a common ingredient in homemade salads. They are only made in Ibiza.
