Talks for young bakers: between tradition and modernity

One of the objectives of Pa d’Aquí, as well as highlighting the value of traditional bread, is to make the world of baking more visible. For this reason, ADR Baleares organises motivational talks aimed at students who are studying for a Vocational Training or University degree related to the sector to encourage them and foster vocations among young people.

At these meetings, the professionals also teach the students new techniques to make them aware that the bakery does not belong to the past, but that it is being transformed to focus on the future. Moreover, it should be borne in mind that one purpose of the programme is to give continuity to the possible closures of bakeries, as the lack of generational replacement is one of the main current problems in the sector.

The bakery, patisserie and cookery schools that have so far participated in this activity for young bakers are IES Alcúdia with the baker Biel Vidal from Can la Juanaineta in Alaró, and IES Calvià with José Luis Jaume from Forn Can Paco in Sa Pobla. Gustavo Alem from UCO Bakery in Palma gave talks at IES Guillem Colom Casasnovas in Sóller and IES Josep Sureda y Blanes. In Menorca, Sebastià Bagur from Forn Es Blat – Inpan in Ciutadella has talked to students at IES Maria Àngels Cardona.

The experience and knowledge of these professionals helps the students to know their personal story and see themselves reflected in their professional success story, as well as letting them know that bakery is an attractive job opportunity with a future.
